We believe competitions help us to be inspired! The pressure to perform pushes you to train
harder; the social boost of dozens of your best friends cheering for you will help you reach a higher plane. Watching your teammates GO is inspiring! Only last year, so many athletes surprised themselves with how they could rally under a little bit of pressure from the Open!

It’s that time of the year again – the CrossFit Open is here! The most exciting time in a CrossFit box! The community comes together to cheer each other on, athletes get to challenge themselves, review and set new goals.

The CrossFit Open is a world-wide CrossFit competition open to all. It’s spread out over 3 weeks with a workout being released every week, and giving the athletes four days to complete each workout and submit scores.
At Monkey Flag, we’re not really interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, live a fuller life, and get 1000 high fives from the #fitfam .

The plan is to deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks.

Intramural Open

This year, we’re putting together an Intramural Open at our very own box! Here’s a chance for each one of you to not just test your fitness levels, but to compete with one another and win bragging rights for the rest of the year, of course.
Bring all of your skills to the table for this competition – fitness, math, beer, coffee, history, fashion, cooking, CrossFit trivia – and more. Your team needs you! But – if you want to play in this fun overlay to the CrossFit Open – you must be signed up and registered by Friday, February 9th.


At the Monkey Flag Intramural Open, there will be 3-4 teams with 2 captains each. The coaches will pick captains. Captains can choose to hold on to a couple of athletes (usually closest friends?) before all the participants, including coaches will be drawn into teams. So, not to fret – each one of you will get a place in a team and a chance to showcase your skills.
Each week teams can win points for by :

  1. An athlete performing the Open WOD – 1 point
  2. An athlete placing in the top 3 (within our box) in their category in the Open WOD – 3 points
  3. An athlete attends 5 classes in the week – 2 points
  4. Winning the side challenges set aside for the week – 5 points
  5. Weekly Spirit of the open award – 5 points to the team that creates the most noise, support
    and outstanding efforts in the workouts and on social media !

HOW TO BE PART OF THIS COOL EVENT YOU ASK?

All you have to do is register for the 2024 CrossFit Open HERE and bring your enthusiasm!

WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR THE OPEN?

March 1st-3rd – Open WOD 1
March 8th – 10th Open WOD 2
March 15th – 17th Open WOD 3
We’ll arrange for the participants to complete the Open workouts on Saturdays this year and they’ll be assigned judges too.
Athletes can perform the workout as Rx, scaled or foundations category. There’s age group categories for Teens and Masters too. Whatever your fitness or experience levels may be, the Open is for you!

Preparing for the Open

If you’ve been attending our classes regularly, you’ve been preparing for the open without knowing it! Yet, for some of our members, the Open is a great annual measuring stick to test their improvements in fitness.
If you’re dying to get your first toes-to-bars, or link your pull-ups, tell your coach and book a quick goal review! Maybe even sign up for a couple of 1 on 1 sessions if you’d want to. Leading up to the Open, we’re also going to launch a nutrition challenge you can sign up for! If you have any doubts regarding the Open, feel free to contact our coaches at the box.
Reminder! Our focus is on FUN. We want you to participate because it will make you fitter, and
you’ll be happy and love life more, and glow and stuff. Come together with your buddies, and
make this year’s CrossFit Open our very own, with all the team spirit and joy!
